Recently we attended a local home show to see new services and products that were available. One of the best parts of home shows is all the people and business owners that you meet. We were really impressed with some of the home show booths that a few of the businesses had for displaying their goods and services. If you are in business for yourself, you should attend these shows to get ideas for your own display booth. One of the most impressive was an outdoor home decor company that had a huge deck setup to represent a family get together or party. It was full of all the products they sold like Viking gas grills, tables, chairs, deck boxes, swings, and so on. It was a very neat and attention drawing display to say the least. It was working well for them as they were the busiest vendor in the building. For a good home show you also need a reason to have people write down their contact information and put it in a box or jar. This way you can follow up with them the following week to hopefully strum up some new business. For example, this particular company had a give a way that they were offering. They were giving a new Viking grill to the winner. This caused many people to fill out a form and willingly give them their information. These home improvement shows are a great way to create new business and to build relationships with others or just to get your name and brand out there. You don’t have to give a way expensive items like Viking grills but even a simple discount coupon or something smaller. As long as you can collect names and interact with people that may lead to business, then you are on the right track.
The cleaning industry has long been plagued by cut throat contractors operating fly by night companies. These are unethical contractors using inferior equipment, caveman methods, and near worthless chemicals. Most are uneducated in running a successful business so their market strategy is to low-ball the competition. Unfortunately, by bidding every job too low, they are forced to cut corners leaving a wake of unhappy customers. Their customer service is nonexistent. They are out there just to make a quick buck and to never be seen again. Many homeowners have been burned by poor quality pressure washing services. This unfortunate situation gives the public a bad perception of the entire cleaning industry. The good news is, there are quality professional pressure washing services available to homeowners in Indiana and throughout most of the country. To be safe, find a pressure washing service company that has been in business for a few years, does it full time, has insurance, and past customer testimonials.
With the economy being in shambles it is more crucial than ever to run an efficient business. Only the strong and sound businesses will come out the other end of this still standing. Normally running a small Indiana business can be a challenge but in a poor economy every little financial mistake is amplified. This is nature’s way of weeding out the weak and it works the same in the small business word. Many businesses across Indiana are small service companies like carpet cleaning, house cleaning, pressure washing, painting, and remodeling companies. It is vital to provide a quality service and to really wow the customer to attempt to win their loyalty. Some companies like carpet cleaning and pressure washing companies may want to expand the amount of services they offer. More than ever, it is time to diversify and offer more services to hopefully tap into new markets. Tighten up the budget, cut whatever overhead costs you can, and know that the companies that survive through these less than desirable times will come out shining on the other end.
